Answering the Call finds its basis in Ephesians 4:1,
“As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.”
The title and verse imply that we need to live our lives according to the guidelines set forth in the Bible. What is our calling? Jesus said it best in Mark 12:30 when He said,
“You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength” (NLT).
Will you join me in answering His call?
Grant Gaines grew up in Plano, Texas where he has spent the majority of his life. Grant has always had a passion for sports earning varsity letters in football, lacrosse, and track in high school and continued his lacrosse career as a starter for the University of Arkansas. Sports were not only a hobby of Grant’s, but they opened many doors to allow him to serve the community with God’s love. In his senior year of high school Grant was the leader of his high school’s FCA group and was an assistant coach of a five year old boys’ tee-ball team.
Once in college, Grant used the platform of sports to lead his lacrosse team in prayers and intramural football team in Bible studies. Grant continued his education at the University of Arkansas where he graduated in 3 ½ years with a degree in Marketing Management. In his time at college, Grant was involved in the Christian youth group Student Mobilization and enjoyed serving the underprivileged citizens of Northwest Arkansas at his church’s thrift store appropriately named The Compassion Center.
Some of Grant’s fondest memories of his college days include his time quarterbacking his intramural football team, The Texas Hurt, to a 3rd place finish in the Intramural Flag Football National Tournament. Also, Grant enjoyed hosting a sports talk show on the universities’ student radio station with two of his friends. During the summers between college, Grant enjoyed working as a life guard, volunteering at the Plano West Football Camp for elementary and middle school students, and working at Kanakuk Kamps. After graduating college Grant worked for ESPN Radio in Fayetteville, Arkansas where he produced a daily show as well as hosted a nightly and weekend sports show. Today Grant continues his education at seminary and sharing his passion for Christ through writing and speaking.
From Edwina Patterson:
Grant always says that he has been going to church since nine months before he was born! Because Christ’s love was constantly displayed to him through his parents and family, it was never really an issue of if Grant would receive Jesus as his Lord and Savior, but when he would receive Jesus into his life. Through the love and prayers of his family and by the grace of God, Grant recognized sin in his life and his need for a Savior, and Grant surrendered his heart to the Lord at an early age. Ever since that moment, much like the shepherd boy David, Grant has been seeking to deepen his relationship with the Lord on a more intimate level. It’s my joy to present to you our grandson, Grant Gaines.
